Gardner-Webb’s Jude Carper, Sam Terry Sweep Big South Men’s Golf Weekly Awards

Gardner-Webb University men’s golfers Jude Carper and Sam Terry have secured both Big South Conference weekly honors following their performances at the 2026 Qubein Cup in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The conference announced Thursday, October 22, that Carper had been named Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Terry received Men’s Freshman of the Week recognition.

Both Runnin’ Bulldogs competed individually at Sedgefield Country Club, with Carper recording a top-10 finish and Terry placing inside the top 25.

The awards arrive as Gardner-Webb prepares to conclude its fall schedule at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate in South Carolina.

Jude Carper Earns Big South Men’s Golfer of the Week

Sophomore Jude Carper delivered a consistent performance at the Qubein Cup, finishing tied for ninth with a 54-hole score of 214, four strokes over par.

Competing on the par-70 layout at Sedgefield Country Club, Carper opened with a one-over-par 71 before posting a second-round 72.

He closed with another 71 to secure his place inside the tournament’s top 10.

His rounds of 71, 72 and 71 demonstrated consistency throughout the competition, with no round more than two strokes over par.

The result earned Carper the Big South Men’s Golfer of the Week award, adding another conference recognition to his growing collegiate résumé.

Carper entered the 2026–27 season following a successful freshman campaign in which he earned Second-Team All-Big South honors.

He also received All-Freshman Team recognition after competing in 33 rounds and recording a 73.03 scoring average during the previous season.

His earlier achievements included five Big South Freshman of the Week awards, two top-10 finishes and five top-20 results.

The latest honor reflects his continued development in Gardner-Webb’s men’s golf program.

Sam Terry Named Big South Men’s Freshman of the Week

Freshman Sam Terry joined Carper among the conference’s weekly award winners after finishing tied for 21st at the Qubein Cup.

Terry completed the tournament at 11-over-par 221, recording rounds of 76, 71 and 74.

After opening with a six-over-par 76, he improved by five strokes in the second round to shoot a one-over-par 71.

He followed with a four-over-par 74 in the final round to complete the tournament.

His performance earned him the Big South Men’s Freshman of the Week award.

Terry, a native of Thomasville, North Carolina, has already produced another notable result during his first collegiate season.

At the ECU Ironwood Intercollegiate in September, he finished tied for 10th with a four-under-par total of 212.

That performance included a final-round 68, during which Terry recorded an eagle on the par-4 14th hole.

His latest weekly recognition adds to a promising beginning to his Gardner-Webb career.

Both Players Compete Individually at Qubein Cup

One notable aspect of the Qubein Cup results is that both Carper and Terry participated as individual entries.

Their performances therefore count toward their individual tournament results rather than Gardner-Webb’s team score.

Carper’s tied-ninth finish was the stronger of the two performances, while Terry demonstrated improvement after a difficult opening round.

The results provided both golfers with competitive experience ahead of the final event on Gardner-Webb’s fall calendar.

The university’s announcement did not include additional details about the overall team leaderboard or other participating programs at the Qubein Cup.

Gardner-Webb Builds on Competitive Fall Performances

The Runnin’ Bulldogs have competed in several collegiate tournaments during the fall portion of the 2026–27 season.

Gardner-Webb opened at the Bryan National Intercollegiate, finishing eighth among 13 teams.

The program followed with seventh-place finishes at the Temple Intercollegiate and ECU Ironwood Intercollegiate.

At Ironwood, the Bulldogs finished two over par with a 54-hole team total of 866.

Terry led the team individually with his tied-10th finish, while Carper placed tied for 31st at three over.

Gardner-Webb subsequently finished 12th among 17 teams at the Elon Phoenix Invitational in October.

The latest conference awards give the program another positive development before its fall finale.

Fripp Island Intercollegiate Up Next for Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb is scheduled to close its fall campaign at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate, beginning Friday, October 23, in Fripp Island, South Carolina.

The tournament runs through October 25 and is hosted by USC Upstate.

It will provide the Runnin’ Bulldogs with their final scheduled competitive opportunity before the winter break.

Following the event, Gardner-Webb is scheduled to resume tournament play at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on February 15–16, 2027.

The spring calendar will eventually lead into the Big South Men’s Golf Championship in April.

What the Weekly Honors Mean for Gardner-Webb

The recognition of Carper and Terry highlights contributions from two golfers at different stages of their collegiate careers.

Carper has established himself as an experienced member of the program following a successful freshman season and multiple conference honors.

Terry is beginning his college career, with a top-10 finish at Ironwood and his latest freshman award providing early achievements.

Their performances at the Qubein Cup also demonstrate the value of individual tournament opportunities for players developing their competitive games.

With the Fripp Island Intercollegiate approaching, Gardner-Webb will look to build on those encouraging results and finish the fall portion of its 2026–27 campaign with another competitive performance.
