Friday, Oct. 30 is the real deadline for LIV Golf 2.0. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund set that date in the terms of LIV’s bankruptcy loan, and it carries more weight than the Oct. 25 player deadline that dominated last weekend’s coverage.
As of Wednesday, Oct. 28, five players have publicly signed on to LIV 2.0. The Financial Times reports about 15 more have tentatively committed, but nobody has named them. BC Partners, the private equity firm behind a $300 million rescue plan, wants 30 to 40. This page sorts out the deadlines, tracks the named commitments and exits, and explains what each outcome on Friday means.
Anyone who wants a final verdict won’t find one here. Nobody has one before Friday, and the reporting shifts by the hour.
Quick Answer: The LIV Golf 2.0 deadline is Friday, Oct. 30. BC Partners’ Oct. 25 date passed with five players publicly committed and roughly 15 reportedly tentative, short of the 30 to 40 it wants. Unless LIV and Saudi Arabia’s PIF reach a deal Friday, the PIF starts winding the league down.
When is the LIV Golf 2.0 deadline?
Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. BC Partners first asked for commitments by Oct. 13, pushed that to Oct. 25, and saw the second date pass without a deal. The PIF’s bankruptcy loan sets Oct. 30, and bankruptcy filings show the PIF will start winding down the league if nobody reaches a deal by then.
Reports disagree on whether anyone formally extended the player deadline or whether Oct. 30 simply took over as the date that counts. Golf Monthly reported that the player deadline moved to Oct. 30, while the Financial Times’ Sujeet Indap wrote that Oct. 30 was the real date all along. Either way, Friday is the cutoff.
| Date | Who set it | What it controls | If it passes unmet | Status on Oct. 28 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 13 | BC Partners | First target for player commitments | BC moved it to Oct. 25 | Replaced |
| Oct. 25 | BC Partners, which attached it to the first $4 million of its bankruptcy financing | Initial player commitments | BC decides whether the shortfall matters | Passed with five public commitments and about 15 tentative |
| Oct. 30 | The PIF, in the terms of LIV’s bankruptcy loan | Whether LIV, BC Partners and the PIF reach a final deal | The PIF starts winding down the league | Open, two days out |
| Nov. 16 | DP World Tour | Players declare which tours they’ll play in 2027 | The tour can end the membership of anyone who joins LIV without disclosing it | 19 days out |
Who has committed to LIV Golf 2.0 so far?
Five players have committed publicly: Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, Ben Campbell and Victor Perez. Bland, Tringale, Steele and Campbell were the first four, and Perez joined them around the deadline. Perez holds DP World Tour status, which that tour’s 2027 ban now puts at risk.
Beyond those names, the Financial Times reports roughly 15 players have tentatively committed. It says none of the 15 belong to the two legal groups negotiating over money LIV still owes them. Nobody has identified the 15, so this page can’t either.
| Player | Status on Oct. 28 | What’s reported |
|---|---|---|
| Bryson DeChambeau | No formal commitment | ESPN reports he’s working behind the scenes to get 2.0 running. His old contract no longer binds him, and LIV owes him more than $5 million |
| Dustin Johnson | Undecided | Leads a group of more than 10 players seeking over $100 million in severance from the PIF |
| Cameron Smith | Undecided | No public decision |
| Joaquin Niemann | Undecided | No public decision |
DeChambeau matters more than the other three rows combined. Strip him out, and LIV 2.0 has no headliner to sell to a broadcaster.
Which players have left LIV Golf?
| Player | How they left | What’s reported |
|---|---|---|
| Jon Rahm | Separation agreement | His lawyer told the bankruptcy judge the 2.0 terms were unacceptable. Rahm gave up his claims against LIV’s estate and kept his name, image and likeness rights |
| Sergio Garcia | Contract ended in court | Free to pursue a DP World Tour return |
| Tyrrell Hatton | Announced Oct. 23 | Left the same day as Ian Poulter, Tom McKibbin, Branden Grace and Lucas Herbert |
| Ian Poulter | Announced Oct. 23 | Cited family time, his YouTube channel and senior events |
| Tom McKibbin | Announced Oct. 23 | Plans a full DP World Tour schedule in 2027 |
| Adrian Meronk | Announced | Wants a DP World Tour schedule in 2027 and a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team |
| Louis Oosthuizen | Announced | Described the decision as extremely hard |
| Graeme McDowell | Announced | Major champion who joins the growing exit list |
David Puig, Abraham Ancer, Thomas Pieters and Charles Howell III have also said they’re out.
Meronk and McKibbin both named the DP World Tour as their 2027 home. The DP World Tour’s 2027 ban forced a choice before anyone knew what LIV 2.0 would look like.
How 15 tentative commitments can reach 30 to 40
Start with the legal groups. Two sets of players are negotiating with LIV and the PIF over money from their old contracts, according to Financial Times reporting. A group represented by Weil, Gotshal & Manges has 18 players, and a group led by Reed Smith has five.
Add those 23 to the 15 tentative commitments and you get 38, which sits inside BC Partners’ 30 to 40 window. Treat 38 as the ceiling, because every defection from either group pulls it down.
Nobody has said whether the five public names count toward the 15. If they don’t, the ceiling rises to 43.
That math runs straight through the severance fight. My read: the PIF’s checkbook decides Friday, and Johnson’s lawyer has said his group’s decision depends on it.
Dustin Johnson’s $100 million severance demand
Johnson leads a group of more than 10 players who want severance from the PIF on unpaid contract balances. According to The Athletic, the group includes Bubba Watson and Thomas Detry and seeks more than $100 million. The PIF’s offer so far is two cents on the dollar.
Johnson’s lawyer, David Cornwell, said the group’s choice to release its claims and join LIV 2.0 depends largely on how the PIF handles the wind-up of the original league. The Athletic’s reporting suggests none of them will sign the 2.0 agreement in its current form, while the Financial Times says the group is open to signing after a deal with the PIF. DeChambeau isn’t part of Johnson’s group.
What 30 to 40 players means for the schedule
LIV 1.0 played with teams of four. If 2.0 keeps four-man teams, 30 to 40 players fill seven to ten teams, while 15 players fill three and leave a fourth short. The New York Post reported that BC Partners wants a 17-event global team circuit.
The schedule doesn’t match that ambition yet. LIV’s website lists six 2027 stops, none in the United States: Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, Mexico City and Korea. South Australia’s premier said the Australian event won’t go ahead without guaranteed big names, and reporters expect a decision before the end of November.
Partners are drifting away too. LIV no longer works with the DP World Tour, and the Asian Tour has teamed with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour since its International Series deal with LIV ended. Seventeen events is a stretch for a roster that barely clears 30 to 40.
What happens after Oct. 30
Three outcomes are on the table.
- If LIV, BC Partners and the PIF reach a deal, BC Partners funds the relaunch under its $300 million plan, new 2.0 contracts replace the old ones, and LIV starts building a 2027 schedule. LIV hopes to finish its court-supervised restructuring in early 2027.
- A short slip is possible because BC Partners treated Oct. 25 as a soft date, and Indap reported on Oct. 25 that some players in the legal groups would commit later in the week. As of Wednesday afternoon, the reporting shows no PIF extension.
- With no deal, the PIF begins winding down LIV, and players with unpaid balances compete with other creditors for what’s left. Players who’ve already left can apply for DP World Tour membership by Nov. 16.
The DP World Tour ban and the Nov. 16 declaration date
On Oct. 12, DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings told BBC Sport that anyone who signs with LIV 2.0 won’t get 2027 membership. “Players need to make a choice,” he said. Declarations are due Nov. 16, and only DP World Tour members play for Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in September.
LIV’s attorney, Rob Fitzgerald, told the bankruptcy court at a mid-October hearing that the ban interferes with LIV’s restructuring. Victor Perez’s commitment stands out for that reason.
Frequently asked questions
Is LIV Golf shutting down?
Not yet, but Friday decides a lot. The PIF announced in April that it would stop funding LIV, and LIV filed for Chapter 11 protection in early September. If LIV and the PIF don’t reach a deal by Oct. 30, the PIF starts winding the league down, while BC Partners’ $300 million rescue offer depends on enough players signing.
Who is committed to LIV Golf 2.0?
Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, Ben Campbell and Victor Perez have publicly committed as of Oct. 28. The Financial Times reports about 15 more have tentatively agreed, though nobody has named them. Bryson DeChambeau hasn’t formally committed.
What happens if LIV Golf doesn’t reach 30 to 40 players?
BC Partners decides. The restructuring agreement gives it full authority over whether the commitments are enough, so a shortfall doesn’t end the deal automatically. Friday’s PIF date is the harder edge.
Is Bryson DeChambeau staying with LIV Golf?
He hasn’t said so publicly. ESPN reports he’s working behind the scenes to make 2.0 happen, and his old contract no longer binds him. LIV owes him more than $5 million.
How much money is BC Partners putting into LIV Golf?
BC Partners Credit has committed an initial $4 million as the first piece of a planned $300 million package. LIV only gets the full amount if enough players sign. For scale, the PIF has spent more than $5 billion on LIV since 2022.
Friday’s checklist
Watch for a named player list, a settlement between the PIF and the severance groups, and a BC Partners statement that the commitments are enough. Fifteen unnamed players count for nothing until names and signatures show up. This page updates as soon as the LIV Golf 2.0 deadline produces an answer.
