Eugenio Chacarra claimed his third DP World Tour title of 2026 on Sunday, October 18, winning the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club and moving ahead of Patrick Reed at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.
The Spaniard completed 25 holes on a demanding final day, finishing at 21-under-par 267 after a closing 70. Daniel Hillier took second place at 19 under, two shots behind, after making a late charge.
The victory gives Chacarra the advantage in one of the closest battles for the DP World Tour’s season-long championship.
How Chacarra Won in Delhi
Weather interruptions earlier in the championship forced Chacarra to finish his third round on Sunday morning before beginning his final 18 holes.
He completed round three with a brilliant 63, building a five-stroke advantage for the final round.
Chacarra extended that advantage to six shots early in the afternoon, making birdies at the first and third holes.
But Delhi Golf Club was not going to allow an easy finish.
A bogey at the sixth interrupted his momentum, while fellow Spaniard Ángel Hidalgo applied pressure from the final group. Chacarra responded with important par saves at the ninth and tenth before adding a birdie at the 11th.
New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier then emerged as the most serious challenger.
Hillier’s late scoring surge, completed with a birdie at the 18th, reduced the gap to two strokes.
Chacarra still needed to navigate a difficult closing stretch. After finding trouble from the tee at the 16th, he produced an excellent recovery to save par.
Two more pars completed the victory.
The decisive factor was not simply Chacarra’s ability to make birdies. It was his refusal to surrender shots when the pressure increased.
Chacarra Overtakes Patrick Reed in the Race to Dubai
The tournament result had immediate consequences for the season standings.
Chacarra moved into first place in the Race to Dubai, with Patrick Reed falling to second and Rory McIlroy remaining third.
That changes the equation heading into the final stages of the 2026 season.
Reed had spent much of the year leading the rankings, while McIlroy is seeking an eighth season-long title that would equal Colin Montgomerie’s record.
Chacarra, however, now controls the lead.
The remaining schedule includes the Genesis Championship in South Korea and the season-ending Play-Offs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
With significant ranking points still available, the championship is far from decided.
A Remarkable Three-Win Season
Chacarra’s success in Delhi continues an outstanding season.
His three DP World Tour victories in 2026 are:
- KLM Open: June 2026
- Italian Open: June 2026
- DP World India Championship: October 2026
His first victory on the circuit came at the 2025 Hero Indian Open, giving him four career DP World Tour titles.
The latest success is particularly impressive because Chacarra has been managing a fractured toe in recent weeks.
Despite that setback, he has maintained his form through the closing stretch of the season.
What Happens Next?
Chacarra is now attempting to join the list of Spanish golfers who have won the prestigious Harry Vardon Trophy.
Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm are among the compatriots whose achievements he hopes to follow.
The challenge will be substantial. Reed remains firmly in contention, and McIlroy has a strong record in Dubai.
But after three victories this season, Chacarra has earned the right to be regarded as more than an outsider.
The central question is no longer whether Eugenio Chacarra can compete for the Race to Dubai. It is whether Reed or McIlroy can catch him.
